What number format is used?

Lines are numbered as '1. ', '2. ', '3. ' and so on — the number followed by a period and a space.

Does it handle blank lines?

Yes. Blank lines receive a number just like any other line.

Currently numbering always starts at 1. For custom numbering, you can edit the output.
