IP geolocation is approximate and based on your ISP. VPN or proxy users will see the exit node location. The IP lookup uses ipinfo.io and ipify.org APIs.
About IP Address Info
Detects your public-facing IP address and retrieves geolocation metadata from an IP geolocation API. The page loads with your current IP and associated data already populated — no input required. The data shown includes city, region, country, ISP or organization name, autonomous system number (ASN), timezone, and approximate latitude/longitude coordinates. The IP address shown is your public IP as seen by the internet — the address that external servers log when you make requests. If you are behind a router, your local network IP (192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x) is different and not what remote servers see. If you are connected through a VPN or proxy, the IP shown will be the exit node's address, not your actual ISP-assigned address. This is useful for quickly confirming that a VPN is active and routing correctly. Geolocation accuracy varies: country is usually correct, city is accurate to within 50km for most consumer ISPs, and coordinates are approximate — they often point to the ISP's regional hub rather than your exact location. This is by design; IP geolocation is an estimate. The ASN field identifies the network operator, which is accurate even when city-level location is not. Common uses: verifying VPN connectivity, diagnosing region-locked content issues, and quick sanity-checking your connection's visible identity during development.
